How to Store a Motorcycle
1. Check Your Fluids
First thing’s first: Fill up your tank with fresh fuel. After you top off, add a fuel stabilizer to keep the gas from deteriorating. Run your engine for a few minutes to allow the stabilizer to mix. Double-check any other fluid levels. Use the fluids recommended by your motorcycle’s manufacturer, including antifreeze. Be sure to check and refill old fluids—especially the oil—once you’re ready to ride again.
2. Take Care of Your Tires
Store your bike off the ground and on a rack. If you take the weight off your wheels, you can prevent uneven wear. If you don’t have access to a rack, fill your tires to their maximum recommended volume and rotate them once a month.
3. Prevent Damage
Avoid storing your bike in the sunlight as it can fade paint. A drive-up storage unit will also help keep the rust away. Wash, dry and wax your bike to avoid corrosion. You can also use a dust cover to prevent damage from elements.
Follow these motorcycle storage tips, and there’s no doubt your bike will be ready when it’s time to ride again.
